WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) issued the following statement from President and CEO Pamela G. Bailey in response to today’s mark-up of the ‘FDA Food Safety Modernization Act of 2009’ by the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions:
“Food safety is our number one priority and we share the goals of S.510, the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act of 2009.
“We applaud the HELP Committee for its bipartisan approval of the bill which will provide the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) with the resources and authorities the agency needs to help make prevention the focus of our food safety strategies. In particular, we applaud Senators Durbin, Burr and Gregg for developing the bipartisan food safety legislation approved by the committee today.
“We look forward to working with the Senate to pass comprehensive food safety legislation.”
