WASHINGTON, D.C. – Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) Senior Vice President for Industry Affairs Stephen Sibert today announced the establishment of a new Manufacturing Excellence Share Group, which will focus on the development and promotion of best practices related to the manufacture of consumer packaged goods.

“As industry trends toward dollar savings via increased efficiency continue, manufacturing operations are positioned to contribute very positively to the corporate bottom line. We anticipate a focus on environmental sustainability, sustainable processes, outsourcing, and other key strategic initiatives to evolve from the manufacturing discipline,” said Sibert. “This share group will serve as a laboratory for new ideas where manufacturers can develop and present successful practices that foster greater innovation and efficiency within their companies.”

The first meeting of the GMA manufacturing share group, which will convene quarterly, was held October 7 at GMA headquarters in Washington, D.C. The agenda focused on key performance indicators related to manufacturing efficiency. The share group will also focus on a wide variety of manufacturing issues, including resource optimization leadership and talent development, environmental sustainability and outsourcing. David Donnan, director, Bridge Strategy Group LLC, and a veteran of CPG manufacturing and operations, will serve as the group’s ongoing facilitator.

“Regardless of company size or the products we produce, we all face a common set of issues and challenges. I am pleased to have a forum of peers with whom I can discuss non-competitive manufacturing issues,” noted Dan Sileo, vice president, manufacturing, Sunny Delight Beverages Co.
