Industry Efforts
GMA’s Industry Affairs Group helps forecast trends, manage change in the food industry and increase supply chain efficiencies. By working hand-in-hand with our most powerful resource – GMA members – Industry Affairs strives to continually improve the complex trading partner relationship.
Improving the Supply Chain
Rather than simply reacting after issues surface, GMA is actively identifying emerging trends in the food industry. Through committees and share groups, the Industry Relations Group uncovers new changes in industry competition and consumer behavior and conveys those messages to our members, the media and the overall food industry.
As a pioneer of the ECR initiative, GMA continues to advance ECR goals, now focusing on core elements – electronic data interchange, category management, efficient replenishment and activity based management. Other key Industry Affairs issues include electronic commerce and the Internet, new product introductions, logistics, solution selling and data mining.
GMA sponsors more than 15 educational seminars each year, combining unique real-life case studies with professional peer interaction for a better understanding of the buyer-seller relationship.
Sharing Knowledge
GMA Share Groups began in 1995 to provide issue-specific, focused forums for company executives to meet with peers, share ideas and work to solve problems. Share Groups are a unique GMA benefit, and they allow non-competing companies to meet and discuss common issues. Current GMA Share Groups include: Activity Based Management, Invoice Accuracy, and Unsaleables.
Tapping into Resources
One of GMA’s greatest strengths lies in its associate members, which include some of the nation’s leading management consulting firms. These associate members play a critical role in developing GMA’s educational research work, benchmarking studies and consumer trends reports. Associate members also act as facilitators for meetings and share groups, as well as furnishing speakers for GMA conferences and seminars.
