Senior Director, Environmental Science/Chemical Safety

This position, which reports to the Vice President, Science Policy, provides technical expertise and project management for CPG industry programs and issues related to consumer, environmental, and/or occupational impacts of chemicals in the CPF industry.
Specific responsibilities will include:
- Direct the regulatory and scientific activities of the Association as they relate to issues of chemicals in consumer products, the environment, and/or the workplace.
- Provide technical assistance/consultation in response to member company and staff requests on chemical regulatory issues, toxicology, safety evaluation/risk assessment, environmental assessment, occupational health and emerging issues in these areas.
- Develop liaison relationships with NGOs such as the Environmental Working Group, Consumer Union and others to extend the capability of GMA in consumer product regulation and safety, chemical and environmental regulation and safety, and emerging technologies important to the CPG industry.
- Serve as staff secretary, facilitator and advisor for the GMA Chemical Management committee and as technical advisor to the Consumer Products Safety Committee.
- Manage plans, schedules, budgets and resource allocations for environmental science/chemical safety related projects performed through GMA Scientific and Regulatory Affairs Division on behalf of GMA members; identify, contract with and manage the efforts of external third party consultants or other project teams as needed.
The best candidates will possess:
- Bachelor's degree in relevant science discipline such as environmental science, chemistry or industrial hygiene with a focus on chemical risk management. Advanced degree(s) preferred.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the CPG industry and related chemicals management regulatory policy issues.
- Understanding of chemical risk assessment and safety evaluation methodologies associated with the CPG industry and demonstrated ability to apply same to consumer, environmental and occupational policy issues.
- Excellent communication skills (written, interpersonal and public speaking) including the ability to present technical issues to non-technical audiences.
- Computer skills sufficient to accomplish essential job functions successfully.
- Prior experience building teams and coalitions, and building consensus around issues.
- Prior experience managing contracts, multiple projects and consultants.

Vice President, Industry Affairs

GMA is pleased to announce its search for a professional in the field of CPG industry supply chain and technology management to join its Industry Affairs practice. This position will assist the SVP, Industry Affairs to develop strategies and tactics and execute against plans for member offerings in Supply Chain & Technology, Sales & Sales Promotion, and Industry/Financial Performance.
The primary responsibilities of this new role will include:
- Development of an annual operating plan for the practice area(s) that supports GMA Mission, Goals and Strategies.
- Hands-on management of projects and staff to ensure achievement of annual goals.
- Delivery of top-notch services to members with a focus on service integration across the association.
- Application of substantive subject matter expertise and leadership to Supply Chain and Technology issues and trends in the CPG industry.
- Participation in GMA efforts to recruit/retain its members and to innovate for revenue growth.
The best qualified candidates will possess relevant training and at least 10 years of work experience in the CPG industry in corporate level or consulting assignments, significant strategic planning and leadership roles, and supervisory experience. Recognized subject matter expertise in supply chain management, distribution channels, technology systems and/or enterprise reporting systems is required as is broad exposure to general and emerging CPG industry business issues. Vice President of Science Policy, Food Protection

The Vice President of Science Policy, Food Protection identifies, develops, and executes GMA’s strategies and programs (national and international) and advises GMA Members and staff on scientific and regulatory food protection initiatives that have the potential to impact GMA members.
Specific responsibilities will include:
- Direct the regulatory and scientific activities of the Association as they relate to food protection to achieve GMA’s mission and strategic plan.
- Represent GMA in leadership and supporting roles with member committees and other working groups including but not limited to the Science Institute, the Scientific & Regulatory Affairs Council and its committees and working groups.
- Manage GMA’s service to members on scientific, technical, and regulatory assistance requests with respect to food protection issues.
- Manage and conduct liaison activities with key federal and state regulatory agencies, international organizations, and scientific, technical and professional groups such as FDA, USDA, CDC, HHS, UN Agencies, ILSI, IAFP, and IFT.
- Communicate on food protection issues to stakeholder groups.
- Provide leadership and positive contributions on project teams in a matrixed environment.
- Provide direction for GMA's food safety educational and training products.
The best candidates will possess:
- Advanced professional degree (Ph.D. preferred) in Food Microbiology, Food Safety, Food Science or a related field is required.
- Minimum of 10 years professional work experience in food protection is required, which should include developing and interpreting technical regulations and standards, working proactively with federal regulatory agencies and agency staff on policy development, management of resources, projects and personnel.
- Experience in managing projects, teams, budgets, etc.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to communicate with technical and non-technical audiences effectively. Public speaking skills essential.
- Computer applications knowledge sufficient to accomplish essential job functions; generally, intermediate level skills in Microsoft Suite of applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint is required.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, set priorities, allocate time effectively, develop realistic goals and meet commitments.
