Timeline: 1978-1988
The erection of the Vietnam 1982 Wall and ended in the fall of communism. Beginning with the Iran hostage crisis, 13% inflation and AIDS, the period ended with the fall of the Iron Curtain. In between were Ronald Reagan, Donald Trump, Gorbachev, sushi, bottled water, health clubs, "Star Wars" and affluent yuppies.

GMA Leads Decade of Challenge & Change
GMA led a vast coalition of businesses in defeating the Value Added Tax in Congress in 1986. GMA led a business coalition in the passage of the 1986 Tax Reform Act, one of the nation's most comprehensive reform measures.

GMA headed member company and industry efforts in a very successful anti-tampering campaign. Since many legislative initiatives now came from the states, GMA began a vigorous new state legislative division with branch offices outside Washington.

GMA Features Movers & Shakers
To track and predict consumer shopping and lifestyle changes, major national and international economic shifts and upcoming legislative initiatives, GMA continued its tradition of inviting major national and world leaders to speak at GMA-sponsored forums.
